The FBI is investigating a mass shooting June 13 that took place at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando after an alleged Islamic State attacker opened fire, killed 49 people, injured at least 53 others, and caused a standoff with police while the attacker took several hostages June 12. The shooter was shot and killed by police after an armored vehicle and stun grenades were used to infiltrate the nightclub. • About 100 people in west Philadelphia were displaced June 12 due to a 3-alarm fire at the Netherland Apartments that prompted 100 firefighters to remain on site for about 2 hours containing the incident. – WTXF 29 Philadelphia

29. June 12, WTXF 29 Philadelphia – (Pennsylvania) Apartment fire burned 100 people out of their homes. About 100 people in west Philadelphia were displaced June 12 due to a 3-alarm fire at the Netherland Apartments that prompted 100 firefighters to remain on site for about 2 hours containing the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

24. June 12, Softpedia – (International) Email server glitch exposes email addresses for 7,618 Let’s Encrypt users. The Let’s Encrypt project, launched by Mozilla Foundation and the Electronic Frontier Foundation, reported June 11 that a glitch in its email newsletter system inadvertently exposed the email addresses of 7,618 users, which were 1.9 percent of the entire subscriber base. Let’s Encrypt officials stated they will provide an incident report on what transpired. 25. June 12, Softpedia – (International) Hackers find clever way to bypass Google’s two-factor authentication. A security researcher from Clearbit.com reported that a Google two-factor authentication, or 2FA, attack was active after discovering attackers were disguising themselves as Google notifications in order to trick victims into sending the 6-digit verification code associated with each email account. 26. June 12, CNET – (International) Facebook activates Safety Check after Orlando massacre, its first use in US. Facebook activated its Safety Check tool which aimed to inform family and friends of the status of people near an affected area following the June 12 shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. The tool was utilized for the first time in the U.S. after it was activated during the 2015 Paris shooting.
