Authorities arrested a former employee of Pratt & Whitney, an East Hartford defense contractor, January 9 for attempting to ship thousands of pages of documents related to the U.S. military’s Joint Strike Fighter aircraft to Iran. Customs agents performing routine inspections at a port in Long Beach, California, in November 2013 intercepted the documents that were being sent to the suspect’s brother-in-law in Iran. The FDA asked manufacturers in 2011 to limit the amount of acetaminophen in prescription combination drugs to 325 milligrams per capsule or tablet by January and will start the process of withdrawing approval from manufacturers that have not complied. An investment advisor pleaded guilty January 15 to wire fraud and money laundering charges for running a Ponzi scheme through the Walnut Hills-based Queen City Investment Fund which defrauded between 50 and 200 investors of between $7 million and $20 million. A former co-owner of Greenleaf Companies pleaded guilty January 14 to aiding a bank fraud conspiracy that was part of a mortgage investment scheme in Missouri and Arkansas which caused losses between $2.5 million and $7 million. 8. January 14, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission – (International) Former stockbroker ordered to pay $5.6 million for insider trading in Burger King stock. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission obtained a final judgment against a former employee of Wells Fargo Advisors in Miami that obtained nonpublic information regarding Burger King securities and used it to make $175,000 in illicit profits and to tip others in Brazil and elsewhere.
