 • Ten people were injured in a chain reaction pileup on westbound Interstate 84 in Meridian, Idaho, closing a section of the interstate for 5 hours January 9 after 12 separate accidents blocked the area involving 46 cars and semi-trucks. – Idaho Press-Tribune

 • A Federal disaster declaration was issued after a chemical spilled from a 48,000-gallon tank into the Elk River January 9 compromised the public water system for nearly 300,000 people and forced businesses, government offices, and schools to close in several West Virginia counties. – CNN
