A piece of equipment that dries corn exploded at an Arkalon Energy, LLC ethanol plant in Liberal, Kansas, June 29, potentially causing over $1 million in damages. Fire crews worked through June 30 putting out fires and investigators believe the explosion may have been caused by a natural gas explosion in the combustion chamber of the dryer. June 30, U.S. Department of Justice – (International) BNP Paribas agrees to plead guilty and to pay $8.9 billion for illegally processing financial transactions for countries subject to U.S. economic sanctions. France-based financial institution BNP Paribas agreed in court documents June 30 to enter a guilty plea for conspiring to violate U.S. sanctions by processing billions of dollars of transactions for Cuban, Iranian, and Sudanese entities. BNP Paribas also agreed to pay $8.9 billion in penalties. 6. June 30, WLKY 32 Louisville – (Kentucky; Indiana) Suspected serial bank robber tied to crimes in 5 cities. Police believe a man arrested in Kenton County, Kentucky, June 25 is responsible for at least four bank robberies in Kentucky and one in Indiana. Authorities are continuing to investigate and believe the man may be connected with robberies in five cities. 7. June 30, U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Maryland – (Maryland; Virginia) Bank robber pleads guilty to a series of robberies in 2013. A Washington D.C. man pleaded guilty June 30 to participating in five bank robberies in Maryland and Virginia in 2013. Two other men previously pleaded guilty to the same charges for their involvement in six robberies in which the men worked together. Microsoft’s Digital Crimes Unit seized 22 free domain names operated by No-IP.com due to the domain names allegedly being used by the NJrat and NJw0rm families of malware. WLWT-TV 5 Cincinnati and its sister station MeTV, resumed full-power broadcasts June 30 after going off-air June 26 due to a faulty transmission line on its Chickasaw Street tower in Fairview Heights. About 15 percent of viewers who use an antenna were impacted by the outage.
