The Adams County Health Department reported August 31 that the death toll has risen to 4 with 29 lab confirmed cases of Legionnaires’ disease connected to the Illinois Veterans Home facility in Quincy. Workers at the facility limited access to water sources and worked to disinfect and clean any possible sources of the legionella bacteria. A former U.S. Secret Service agent pleaded guilty August 31 in San Francisco to using his position to steal over $820,000 worth of bitcoin digital currency from Silk Road online drug market accounts in 2013 by resetting passwords and PINS of various accounts, allowing him to fraudulently move and steal nearly 20,000 bitcoin. The Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Center (CERT/CC) issued an advisory warning of unpatched vulnerabilities in Belkin N600 DB Wireless Dual Band N+ routers, including insufficient randomization values for transaction identification, a man-in-the-middle (MitM) vulnerability that could allow an attacker to send arbitrary files to routers, and a global cross-site request forgery (CSRF) bug.
