400 forced to leave homes. Authorities are investigating a 5-alarm fire and
series of explosions that destroyed the Rowayton Trading Co. and JWC Roofing
and Siding factories in Bridgeport September 11. An evacuation order for 400
residents from area homes was lifted September 12, while crews remained at the
scene to test air and water quality due to chemicals releases caused by the
blaze and a fishing ban was put in place for Bridgeport Harbor and part of Long

to million-dollar Medicaid fraud. An employee of the New York City Human
Resources Administration’s Medicaid Reimbursement Unit pleaded guilty September
11 to running a Medicaid fraud scheme where he manipulated the Medicaid
reimbursement system to embezzle over $1 million worth of checks and issue them

26. September 11, WALB 10 Albany – (Georgia) Police estimate $250,000 in copper wire stolen
from buildings. Authorities are investigating after more than $250,000 in
copper wire and refrigerants was stolen from a vacant Winn Dixie supermarket in
Albany, Georgia, causing an estimated $500,000 in damage to the structure and
its contents. Police believe the thieves spent days stripping the store after
they broke in through a back cooler and dug a hole through a cement wall.

theft, bank scam. Sixteen people were indicted September 11 for allegedly
operating an identity theft and check fraud scheme in the north Texas and
Dallas-Fort Worth areas that caused over $1.3 million in bank losses. The alleged
ring would break into vehicles to obtain victims’ personal information and
checks, cashed stolen checks at drive-thru bank lanes, and used stolen license

11, Bloomberg News – (International) Liberty Reserve employee
pleads guilty in bank scheme. The former chief technology officer of
digital currency service Liberty Reserve pleaded guilty to helping run the
illegal money service. The former CTO was the third person to plead guilty
connected to the service that concealed over $6 billion in criminal proceeds.

parallel in cyber espionage campaigns: FireEye. Researchers with FireEye
discovered two cyberespionage campaigns originating in two regions of China
that appear to share several commonalities including using the same custom
backdoors and remote access trojans (RATs). One campaign dubbed Moafee targets
various military, government, and defense industry entities while the second
known as DragonOK targets high-tech and manufacturing companies in Taiwan and

in Chrome Web Store. Trend Micro researchers identified several malicious
